1,277. Benefit from the Dead

197:12 If a Jew was killed by an idolator, even if he didn't bleed at all, such as if he was strangled, we bury him as he was found. This is done in order to stir G-d's wrath against the perpetrator.

197:13 It is prohibited to derive benefit from a dead body - whether the person was Jewish or non-Jewish - or from its burial shrouds. The same is true for anything joined to the body for the sake of its appearance, such as a wig that is tied with the deceased's hair. Similarly, if the deceased had false teeth, they should be buried with him. However, it is permitted to benefit from ornaments that aren't connected to the body.  Certainly anything that doesn't approximate a body part, like jewelry and clothes, is permitted for any purpose. See Pischei Teshuvah 349.
