3,069. Mixed Species Next to a Vineyard

Hilchos Kilayim 6:2

The previous halacha only applies when there are more than four cubits (about six feet) from the edge of the circle until the rows of vines outside of it; if there are exactly four cubits or less, we treat the circle as if it reached the row next to it, rendering the diameter of the circle 40 cubits (rather than 32 cubits as in the previous scenario). We consider every vine that falls within this 40-cubit-diameter circle, with the result that they're all consecrated.

Hilchos Kilayim 6:3

The previous halacha applies when one plants mixed species in the middle of a vineyard or allows them to remain there. If he plants outside the vineyard but next to it, then he renders consecrated the two rows of vines next to what he planted. The consecrated vines cover the whole length of what he planted plus four additional cubits on either side. A strip of land four cubits wide planted along the length of the vineyard’s outside row is consecrated. If he only plants next to one vine, then just a circle with a six-handbreadth radius (about 18”) is consecrated.
