3,058. Biblical vs. Rabbinic Law

Hilchos Kilayim 5:4

The reason the Sages prohibited planting the mixed species of a vineyard outside of Israel but they didn’t prohibit the mixed species of a field is because the prohibition of mixed species of a vineyard is more stringent in that, if they were planted in Israel, it would be prohibited to derive benefit from them. Since benefit is prohibited in Israel, it is prohibited to plant them outside of Israel.

Hilchos Kilayim 5:5

A Jew is not allowed to hoe mixed produce with a non-Jew, but he may pluck the produce with him in order to reduce that which is unwanted.
