2,757. Permitting a Vow

Hilchos Nedarim 4:5

If someone made a vow and subsequently regretted it, he may approach a Torah scholar and ask to have the vow permitted. The laws for permitting vows are the same as those for permitting oaths. A vow only can be permitted by a Torah authority or by three laymen in a place where there are no Torah scholars. The process of permitting a vow is the same as permitting an oath. Everything else we discussed about permitting oaths likewise applies to permitting vows.

Hilchos Nedarim 4:6

A vow is not permitted until it takes effect, the same as with an oath.
