2,672. Trying to Permit an Oath That Has Not Yet Taken Effect

Hilchos Shevuos 6:14

Let’s say that someone took an oath not to speak to a certain person. Later, he took an oath that if he seeks to have this oath permitted, he will be prohibited to drink wine forever. If he changes his mind, he must first seek to have the original oath permitted, after which he may seek to have the second oath permitted. This is because we can’t permit a vow or an oath before it takes effect. Therefore, if someone took an oath in the month of Nisan that he wouldn’t eat meat for 30 days starting from Rosh Chodesh Iyar, if he changes his mind, he can’t have the oath permitted until Iyar begins.

Hilchos Shevuos 6:15

If someone takes an oath not to benefit from a particular person and not to benefit from the scholar who permits this oath, he must first seek to permit the original oath, and then the second oath.
