Peah 4:4-5

Peah 4:4

The needy do not reap peah using sickles or spades because of the danger of the recipients hitting one another.

Peah 4:5

The needy are allowed to come collect peah three times in the day – once in the morning, once at noon, and once when it’s time for mincha. Rabban Gamliel says this is the minimum number of times that the land owner must allow; Rabbi Akiva says this is the maximum, so that the land owner not be excessively burdened. The people of Beis Namer (either a place or a family name) would give peah from each row of their field, using a rope to indicate the progress.
