Challah 4:1-2

Challah 4:1

If two women made dough from two kav (about 2.5 liters) of flour and these two doughs got connected to one another, they are exempt from challah even if they are of the same type of grain. If both doughs belong to one woman, they are obligated in challah when they are of the same type and exempt when of different types.

Challah 4:2

Examples of “like kinds” for this purpose are as follows: wheat is only considered “like kinds” with spelt. Barley is “like kinds” with oats, rye and spelt. Rabbi Yochanan ben Nuri says that oats, rye and spelt are all “like kinds” with one another.
