According to the Malbim the more powerful acted as if they were בני אלוהים and abused the authority and faith people had in them. We see the same behavior when Avraham and Sarah go to Egypt and in the episode of Dina and Shechem.
Rav Shimshon Raphael Hirsch explains that the problem was that the בני אלוהים chose from b'not Kayin, ignoring the influence of their background.
