433. Writing Malei as Chaseir or Vice Versa
Tefillin, Mezuzah v’Sefer Torah 7:12
An uncorrected sefer Torah should not be left for more than thirty days. It should either be corrected or hidden away. If a sefer Torah has three errors in each column, it should be corrected. If it has four, it should be hidden away. If the majority of a sefer Torah has been checked and found accurate but there are four errors in each column of the rest of it, then it should be corrected so long as at least one column of the flawed section has fewer than four errors.
Tefillin, Mezuzah v’Sefer Torah 7:13
The above rule (about not fixing four errors) applies when one wrote a word’s short form instead of its long form. In such a case, one will have to insert the missing letters in between the lines. If one wrote a word’s long form instead of its short form, the sefer Torah may be corrected even if there are many such errors on each page. In this case, one removes letters instead of inserting them.
