Sheviis 2:3-4
Sheviis 2:3
One may remove stones from a field until Rosh Hashana of the sabbatical year, as well as trim, prune and remove excess. Rabbi Yehoshua says that just as one may do these things from the fifth year of the sabbatical cycle into the sixth, he may do them from the sixth year into the sabbatical year itself. Rabbi Shimon says that one may remove a tree’s excesses for as long as one may work a tree (i.e., until Shavuos in the sixth year).
Sheviis 2:4
One may fix the peeling bark of saplings, wrap them to protect them from the elements, trim them, shelter them with walls of reeds and water them until Rosh Hashana of the sabbatical year. Rabbi Elazar bar Tzadok says that one may even water the branches in the sabbatical year itself, but one may not water the roots then.
