Mikvaos 2:7-8

Mikvaos 2:7

Let’s say that someone left jugs on the roof to dry and they filled with water. Rabbi Eliezer says that if it was the rainy season, or if there’s a little water in the cistern (that feeds the mikvah), one should break the jugs (so that the water flows into the mikvah). If such is not the case, then he should not break them. Rabbi Yehoshua says that in either case one should break them or knock them over but one may not pour from them into the cistern.

Mikvaos 2:8

Let’s say that a plasterer forgot his pot in the cistern and it filled with water. Rabbi Eliezer says that if water flowed over it even a little (so that the water in the pot touches the water in the cistern), he should break it. If such is not the case, it should not be broken. Rabbi Yehoshua says that it should be broken in either event.
