117. Extending a Ban
Talmud Torah 7:6
If a person was under a ban for thirty days and did not try to be released from it, he is placed under a second ban. If the second thirty-day period passed and he still did not try to get released, he is excommunicated.
Talmud Torah 7:7
It takes three, even lay people, or a single expert judge to release someone from a ban or excommunication. A student may release someone even in his teacher’s jurisdiction.
