Bitachon Part 2

Bitachon—true trust and reliance exclusively upon Hashem - is a way of living that transforms every aspect of a person’s existence. As introduced previously, the benefits of Bitachon are numerous and astounding both in this world and the next. It brings peace of mind, serenity, happiness, healthier relationships, and a deep sense of connection to Hashem. These are the very outcomes people spend their lives pursuing. Bitachon offers a direct path toward them.

Yet to access these benefits, we must first understand what Bitachon really means. It is not passive optimism, nor is it simply hoping things will work out. Rather, as explained in Chovos Helevovos (Duties of the Heart/Mind), Bitachon is a complete and unwavering reliance on Hashem alone.

Duties of the Heart outlines conditions necessary to fully trust and rely on another. But no human being can meet these conditions. Only Hashem does.

First, Hashem’s love and kindness are constant and absolute. From the moment we are born, He continuously bestows goodness upon us. Any care, support, or compassion we receive from others is merely a channel; the source is always Hashem Himself. Internalizing this shifts how we see the world: we are never abandoned, never alone, never outside His care.

Second, only Hashem knows what is truly best for us. He created us, sustains us, and understands not only our immediate needs but our ultimate purpose and exactly what we need to achieve it. Bitachon means - trusting and relying on His knowledge and His love and kindness, to give us what is truly best for us.

Third, Hashem is all-powerful. There are no barriers, no competing forces, no limitations. What He wills happens. While we engage in effort, we recognize that outcomes are solely in His hands. At the same time, He grants us the ability to influence what is decreed—through Bitachon and Tefilah.

Finally, Hashem is involved in every detail of our lives at every moment. Nothing is random. Nothing is overlooked. Every event—whether it feels sweet or bitter—is guided with precision, purpose, and loving kindness. Living with this awareness replaces anxiety with calm and peace of mind.

With this foundation, Bitachon becomes not just a belief, but a posture of the heart. We are instructed to approach tefilah like a servant who is helpless and powerless, completely dependent on his master. For us, this is not a feeling of despair, but of clarity. We recognize that only Hashem can provide us with every need and desire, large and small. Therefore, we direct our needs, our hopes, and our concerns to the One who can truly address them.

And we do so persistently. We ask again and again because we are confident in His love, compassion, and power. We look forward to His salvation as a free gift even if we are undeserving.

This is where the power of daily Tefilah becomes central. As introduced, “the purpose of this new series is to assist in identifying and enabling us to grab the many great opportunities Hashem has gifted to us during the time we invest in our tefilos. The words we already say each day contain within them the keys to developing Bitachon. By focusing on these pesukim, repeating them with intention, and allowing their meaning to settle within us, we slowly reshape our inner world.

Bitachon is not acquired overnight. It is a lifetime of work and growth. But it is also one of the most rewarding journeys a person can undertake. Every small step—every moment of choosing trust over worry, every Tefilah said with deeper reliance—builds something lasting within us.

As we continue, we will begin to explore specific pesukim within our tefilos that can serve as anchors for this effort. If we approach them with consistency and sincerity, they will not remain words on a page. They will become part of us.

And in doing so, we open ourselves to the very gifts we seek most: peace of mind, clarity, connection, and a life infused with purpose and closeness to Hashem.

May we merit to grow steadily in Bitachon, and through it, to experience true connection, happiness, and enduring inner peace.
