Deuteronomy 21:12
You shall bring her home to your house, and she shall shave her head and make her nails.
What does it mean “to make” the captive woman’s nails? The Talmud (Yevamos 48a) offers two opinions. Rabbi Eliezer says that is means to cut her nails. (His reason: it is the same as her hair, which she cuts.) Rabbi Akiva disagrees and says that it means to let her nails grow. (His reason: this was considered unattractive, just as shaving her head was done to make her unattractive.)
