(כה) וַיְחִ֣י מְתוּשֶׁ֔לַח שֶׁ֧בַע וּשְׁמֹנִ֛ים שָׁנָ֖ה וּמְאַ֣ת שָׁנָ֑ה וַיּ֖וֹלֶד אֶת־לָֽמֶךְ׃ (כו) וַֽיְחִ֣י מְתוּשֶׁ֗לַח אַֽחֲרֵי֙ הוֹלִיד֣וֹ אֶת־לֶ֔מֶךְ שְׁתַּ֤יִם וּשְׁמוֹנִים֙ שָׁנָ֔ה וּשְׁבַ֥ע מֵא֖וֹת שָׁנָ֑ה וַיּ֥וֹלֶד בָּנִ֖ים וּבָנֽוֹת׃ (כז) וַיִּהְיוּ֙ כׇּל־יְמֵ֣י מְתוּשֶׁ֔לַח תֵּ֤שַׁע וְשִׁשִּׁים֙ שָׁנָ֔ה וּתְשַׁ֥ע מֵא֖וֹת שָׁנָ֑ה וַיָּמֹֽת׃ {ס}

(כה) וַחֲיָא מְתוּשֶׁלַח מְאָה וְתַמְנִין וּשְׁבַע שְׁנִין וְאוֹלִיד יָת לָמֶךְ: (כו) וַחֲיָא מְתוּשֶׁלַח בָּתַר דְּאוֹלִיד יָת לֶמֶךְ שְׁבַע מְאָה וְתַמְנִין וְתַרְתֵּין שְׁנִין וְאוֹלִיד בְּנִין וּבְנָן: (כז) וַהֲווֹ כָּל יוֹמֵי מְתוּשֶׁלַח תְּשַׁע מְאָה וְשִׁתִּין וּתְשַׁע שְׁנִין וּמִית:

25. Mesushelach lived 187 years and he fathered Lemech. 26. Mesushelach lived 782 years after Lemech was born, and he fathered sons and daughters. 27. All the days of Mesushelach were 969 years, and he died.

(כח) וַֽיְחִי־לֶ֕מֶךְ שְׁתַּ֧יִם וּשְׁמֹנִ֛ים שָׁנָ֖ה וּמְאַ֣ת שָׁנָ֑ה וַיּ֖וֹלֶד בֵּֽן׃ (כט) וַיִּקְרָ֧א אֶת־שְׁמ֛וֹ נֹ֖חַ לֵאמֹ֑ר זֶ֞֠ה יְנַחֲמֵ֤נוּ מִֽמַּעֲשֵׂ֙נוּ֙ וּמֵעִצְּב֣וֹן יָדֵ֔ינוּ מִן־הָ֣אֲדָמָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר אֵֽרְרָ֖הּ יְהֹוָֽה׃ (ל) וַֽיְחִי־לֶ֗מֶךְ אַֽחֲרֵי֙ הוֹלִיד֣וֹ אֶת־נֹ֔חַ חָמֵ֤שׁ וְתִשְׁעִים֙ שָׁנָ֔ה וַחֲמֵ֥שׁ מֵאֹ֖ת שָׁנָ֑ה וַיּ֥וֹלֶד בָּנִ֖ים וּבָנֽוֹת׃ (לא) וַֽיְהִי֙ כׇּל־יְמֵי־לֶ֔מֶךְ שֶׁ֤בַע וְשִׁבְעִים֙ שָׁנָ֔ה וּשְׁבַ֥ע מֵא֖וֹת שָׁנָ֑ה וַיָּמֹֽת׃ {ס}

(כח) וַחֲיָא לֶמֶךְ מְאָה וְתַמְנִין וְתַרְתֵּין שְׁנִין וְאוֹלִיד בָּר: (כט) וּקְרָא יָת שְׁמֵהּ נֹחַ לְמֵימָר דֵּין יְנַחֲמִנָּנָא מֵעוֹבָדָנָא וּמִלֵּאוּת יְדָנָא מִן אַרְעָא דִּי לַטְטַהּ יְיָ: (ל) וַחֲיָא לֶמֶךְ בָּתַר דְּאוֹלִיד יָת נֹחַ חֲמֵשׁ מְאָה וְתִשְׁעִין וַחֲמֵשׁ שְׁנִין וְאוֹלִיד בְּנִין וּבְנָן: (לא) וַהֲווֹ כָּל יוֹמֵי לֶמֶךְ שְׁבַע מְאָה וְשַׁבְעִין וּשְׁבַע שְׁנִין וּמִית:

28. Lemech lived 182 years and he fathered a son. 29. He called his name Noach, saying, “This one will provide us with comfort[1] from our labor and from the exhaustion[2] of our hands in the soil that Hashem cursed.” 30. Lemech lived 595 years after Noach was born, and he fathered sons and daughters. 31. All the days of Lemech were 777 years, and he died.

(לב) וַֽיְהִי־נֹ֕חַ בֶּן־חֲמֵ֥שׁ מֵא֖וֹת שָׁנָ֑ה וַיּ֣וֹלֶד נֹ֔חַ אֶת־שֵׁ֖ם אֶת־חָ֥ם וְאֶת־יָֽפֶת׃

(לב) וַהֲוָה נֹחַ בַּר חֲמֵשׁ מְאָה שְׁנִין וְאוֹלִיד נֹחַ יָת שֵׁם יָת חָם וְיָת יָפֶת:

32. Noach lived 500 years, and Noach fathered Sheim, Cham and Yefes.

Chapter 6

(א) וַֽיְהִי֙ כִּֽי־הֵחֵ֣ל הָֽאָדָ֔ם לָרֹ֖ב עַל־פְּנֵ֣י הָֽאֲדָמָ֑ה וּבָנ֖וֹת יֻלְּד֥וּ לָהֶֽם׃ (ב) וַיִּרְא֤וּ בְנֵי־הָֽאֱלֹהִים֙ אֶת־בְּנ֣וֹת הָֽאָדָ֔ם כִּ֥י טֹבֹ֖ת הֵ֑נָּה וַיִּקְח֤וּ לָהֶם֙ נָשִׁ֔ים מִכֹּ֖ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר בָּחָֽרוּ׃ (ג) וַיֹּ֣אמֶר יְהֹוָ֗ה לֹֽא־יָד֨וֹן רוּחִ֤י בָֽאָדָם֙ לְעֹלָ֔ם בְּשַׁגַּ֖ם ה֣וּא בָשָׂ֑ר וְהָי֣וּ יָמָ֔יו מֵאָ֥ה וְעֶשְׂרִ֖ים שָׁנָֽה׃ (ד) הַנְּפִלִ֞ים הָי֣וּ בָאָ֘רֶץ֮ בַּיָּמִ֣ים הָהֵם֒ וְגַ֣ם אַֽחֲרֵי־כֵ֗ן אֲשֶׁ֨ר יָבֹ֜אוּ בְּנֵ֤י הָֽאֱלֹהִים֙ אֶל־בְּנ֣וֹת הָֽאָדָ֔ם וְיָלְד֖וּ לָהֶ֑ם הֵ֧מָּה הַגִּבֹּרִ֛ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר מֵעוֹלָ֖ם אַנְשֵׁ֥י הַשֵּֽׁם׃ {פ}

(א) וַהֲוָה כַּד שְׁרִיאוּ בְנֵי אֱנָשָׁא לְמִסְגֵּי עַל אַפֵּי אַרְעָא וּבְנָתָא אִתְיְלִידוּ לְהוֹן: (ב) וַחֲזוֹ בְנֵי רַבְרְבַיָּא יָת בְּנַת אֱנָשָׁא אֲרֵי שַׁפִּירָן אִנוּן וּנְסִיבוּ לְהוֹן נְשִׁין מִכֹּל דִּי אִתְרְעִיאוּ: (ג) וַאֲמַר יְיָ לָא יִתְקַיַם דָרָא בִישָׁא הָדֵין קֳדָמַי לְעַלָם בְּדִיל דְאִנוּן בִּשְׂרָא וְעוֹבָדֵיהוֹן בִּישַׁיָא אַרְכָא יְהִיבַת לְהוֹן מְאָה וְעַשְׂרִין שְׁנִין אִם יְתוּבוּן: (ד) גִּבָּרַיָּא הֲווֹ בְאַרְעָא בְּיוֹמַיָּא הָאִנּוּן וְאַף בָּתַר כֵּן דִּי יַעֲלוּן בְּנֵי רַבְרְבַיָּא לְוַת בְּנַת אֱנָשָׁא וִילִידָן לְהוֹן אִנוּן גִּבָּרַיָּא דִּמֵעָלְמָא אֱנָשִׁין דִּשְׁמָא:

1. It happened when the sons of man started to increase on the face of the Earth and daughters were born to them. 2. Powerful people[3] noticed the daughters of men because they were beautiful and they took wives for themselves from whomever they desired. 3. Hashem said, “This evil generation will not endure before Me forever because they are flesh and their actions are evil. I will give them as many as 120 years if they repent.” 4. There were mighty ones in those days, and also afterwards. When the powerful people mated with the daughters of men, they bore them children. These were the mighty ones of old, prominent people.

(ה) וַיַּ֣רְא יְהֹוָ֔ה כִּ֥י רַבָּ֛ה רָעַ֥ת הָאָדָ֖ם בָּאָ֑רֶץ וְכׇל־יֵ֙צֶר֙ מַחְשְׁבֹ֣ת לִבּ֔וֹ רַ֥ק רַ֖ע כׇּל־הַיּֽוֹם׃ (ו) וַיִּנָּ֣חֶם יְהֹוָ֔ה כִּֽי־עָשָׂ֥ה אֶת־הָֽאָדָ֖ם בָּאָ֑רֶץ וַיִּתְעַצֵּ֖ב אֶל־לִבּֽוֹ׃ (ז) וַיֹּ֣אמֶר יְהֹוָ֗ה אֶמְחֶ֨ה אֶת־הָאָדָ֤ם אֲשֶׁר־בָּרָ֙אתִי֙ מֵעַל֙ פְּנֵ֣י הָֽאֲדָמָ֔ה מֵֽאָדָם֙ עַד־בְּהֵמָ֔ה עַד־רֶ֖מֶשׂ וְעַד־ע֣וֹף הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם כִּ֥י נִחַ֖מְתִּי כִּ֥י עֲשִׂיתִֽם׃ (ח) וְנֹ֕חַ מָ֥צָא חֵ֖ן בְּעֵינֵ֥י יְהֹוָֽה׃ {פ}

(ה) וַחֲזָא יְיָ אֲרֵי סְגִיאַת בִּישַׁת אֱנָשָׁא בְּאַרְעָא וְכָל יִצְרָא מַחְשְׁבַת לִבֵּהּ לְחוֹד בִּישׁ כָּל יוֹמָא: (ו) וְתַב יְיָ בְּמֵימְרֵהּ אֲרֵי עֲבַד יָת אֱנָשָׁא בְּאַרְעָא וַאֲמַר בְּמֵימְרֵהּ לְמִתְּבַר תָּקְפְּהוֹן כִּרְעוּתֵהּ: (ז) וַאֲמַר יְיָ אֶמְחֵי יָת אֲנָשָׁא דִּי בְרֵאתִי מֵעַל אַפֵּי אַרְעָא מֵאֱנָשָׁא עַד בְּעִירָא עַד רִיחֲשָׁא וְעַד עוֹפָא דִּשְׁמַיָּא אֲרֵי תָבִית בְּמֵימְרִי אֲרֵי עֲבַדְתִּנוּן: (ח) וְנֹחַ אַשְׁכַּח רַחֲמִין קֳדָם יְיָ:

5. Hashem saw that man’s immorality on Earth was great, and every plan conceived by his mind was pure evil every day.[4] 6. Hashem rescinded through His word that He had made man on Earth.[5] He said through His word to break their power according to His will. 7. Hashem said, “I will blot out man, whom I created, from the face of the Earth – from man to beast, to crawling things, to birds of the Heavens, because I rescind through My word that I made them.” 8. But Noah found mercy before Hashem.
