Avos 1:4-5

Avos 1:4

Yosi ben Yoezer of Tzreida and Yosi ben Yochanan of Jerusalem received the Torah from Shimon HaTzaddik and Antiginos. Yosi ben Yoezer said that we should let our homes be meeting places for Torah scholars so that we may sit at their feet and thirstily drink in their words.

Avos 1:5

Yosi ben Yochanan of Jerusalem said that we should let our homes be wide open to guests, the needy should be like members of our households, and men should not engage in too much idle chatter with women. This was said about one’s own wife and it applies all the more to someone else’s wife! Based on this, the Sages said that one who engages in excessive chatter with a woman brings evil upon himself, neglects his Torah study and, ultimately, inherits Gehinnom.
