2,285. Flying Swarming Things

Maachalos Assuros 2:5

A non-kosher locust is considered a flying thing that swarms. One who eats an olive-sized piece of a flying thing that swarms is liable for lashes under Biblical law as per Deuteronomy 14:19, “All flying things that swarm are unclean to you; they may not be eaten.” Flying things that swarm include flies, mosquitos, hornets and bees, among others.

Maachalos Assuros 2:6

When one eats an olive-sized piece of a thing that swarms on land, he is liable for lashes as per Leviticus 11:41, “Anything that swarms upon the ground is detestable to you; do not eat it.” Things that swarm on land include snakes, scorpions, beetles, centipedes, etc.
