Nothing in the Torah is more difficult for most people to separate themselves from than inappropriate sexual behavior. The Sages taught that when the Jews were commanded regarding the prohibited relations, they cried and accepted this mitzvah with moaning. Numbers 11:10 says “Crying by family,” which is understood to mean “Crying about family matters.”

The Sages said that a person’s soul wants to steal and engage in prohibited relations. There’s no community without some members who engage in prohibited sexual relations. The Sages also taught that most people sin by stealing, a few sin through prohibited relations, and everybody sins by speaking implied gossip.
