2,228. A Woman of Kohein Descent

Hilchos Issurei Biah 19:11

A kohein who is prohibited to marry a zonah or a chalalah is also prohibited to marry a convert or a freed servant, who are the equivalent of a zonah, as has already been discussed. A woman from a kohein family, however, is permitted to marry a chalal, a convert or a freed servant because women of halachically fit lineage were not prohibited from marrying men of lesser lineage as per the aforementioned Leviticus 21:1, “Speak to the kohanim, the sons of Aaron.” We see that this prohibition only applies to sons and not to daughters. Accordingly, a convert is equally permitted to marry a mamzeres and a kohein’s daughter.

Hilchos Issurei Biah 19:12

If converts and freed servants marry among themselves and give birth to a daughter, she is prohibited to marry a kohein even after several generations because a born Jew has never mixed with them. If a kohein did marry such a woman, she need not be divorced since she was both conceived by and born to Jews. However, if a convert or a freed servant marries a woman born Jewish or if a man born Jewish marries a female convert or a freed servant woman, their daughter may marry a kohein even lechatchila (ab initio).
