2,217. The Testimony of a Man With a Vested Interest
Hilchos Issurei Biah 18:19
A man’s word is not accepted if he testifies that his wife, who had been taken captive, was not molested by her captors. Similarly, a woman’s own servant woman may not testify about her, though her husband’s servant woman may. Statements made by a woman’s servant woman in the course of conversation are acceptable.
Hilchos Issurei Biah 18:20
If a kohein testifies that a woman who had been taken captive was not molested, he is not permitted to marry her out of concern that his interest in her influenced his testimony. If he ransomed her and testified on her behalf, then he is permitted to marry her. This is because, if he didn’t know that she was undefiled, he wouldn’t have spent the money to ransom her.
