2,162. Samson and Solomon - Part 1
Hilchos Issurei Biah 13:13
Converts, servants and freed servants must immerse in a mikvah that is fit for a woman after her period. Any interposition (between the water and the person) invalidates the immersion of a convert, servant or freed servant.
Hilchos Issurei Biah 13:14
Don’t think that Samson – who saved the Jewish people – and King Solomon – who was called “God’s beloved” – married unconverted non-Jewish woman. Rather, the way to perform the mitzvah of conversion is when an applicant for conversion comes, we investigate their motives to ensure that they’re not coming because of financial inducement, to acquire a position of authority or out of fear. For a man, we check whether he’s attracted to a Jewish woman, and vice versa for a woman. If we discern no ulterior motive, we tell them how hard it is to keep the Torah so that they’ll give up. If they persist and we see that they’re motivated by love, we accept them as converts as per Ruth 1:18, “When she (Naomi) saw that she (Ruth) was steadfast about continuing with her, she stopped trying to dissuade her.”
