2,142. How to Behave During the Seven Clean Days

Nowadays, even though the seven clean days are only kept out of doubt, if a woman immerses during this time, it’s the same as not immersing at all. If she immerses on the seventh day, the immersion is valid though one is not permitted to act this way at the outset. This is out of concern that she might engage in marital intimacy on the seventh day after using the mikvah. Nevertheless, she immersed in an appropriate time even if she definitely had been a zavah.

It is prohibited for a man to hug his wife during her seven clean days even if they’re both fully dressed. He may not draw near to her or touch her – even with his pinky – or eat from the same plate with her. The general rule is that he must act during the days she’s counting the same as he does in her niddah days because intimacy with such a woman still renders one subject to kareis (excision) until she immerses in a mikvah, as has already been discussed.
