2,132. When the Nature of a Miscarriage is Unkown
Hilchos Issurei Biah 10:18
If a woman delivers both a boy and a girl, she follows the rules that apply when one gives birth to a girl. If she gives birth to a hermaphrodite or a child of indeterminate gender, she follows both the rules that apply when giving birth to a boy and those that apply when giving birth to a girl. If she delivers both a boy and a hermaphrodite or a child of indeterminate gender, she follows both the rules that apply after giving birth to a boy and a girl. If she delivers both a girl and a hermaphrodite or a child of indeterminate gender, she follows the rules that apply after giving birth to a girl. This is because the sex of a hermaphrodite or a child of indeterminate gender is in doubt; the child might be a boy or it might be a girl.
Hilchos Issurei Biah 10:19
Let’s say that a woman who is known to be pregnant delivers something but she doesn’t know what, such as if she miscarried into a river or a pit, or an animal dragged the fetus away. In such a case, we assume that she expelled a human-looking fetus, with the result that she follows the rules that apply after giving birth to a boy and a girl. If she wasn’t known to be pregnant and she doesn’t know what she miscarried, she follows the rules that apply after giving birth to a boy and a girl plus those of a niddah.
