Siman - Pesachim Daf 85

  • בני חבורה זריזין הן

It was taught in a Mishnah, פיגול ונותר מטמאין את הידים – Piggul and nossar are metamei the hands that touch them, which Rashi explains is midiRabbanon. Rav Huna and Rav Chisda explained the reason for this decree. The one who taught the reason for piggul, said it was משום חשדי כהונה – because of suspect Kohanim. Rashi explains that they were suspect of being mephagel the korban out of enmity for the person bringing it, which would cause him a monetary loss. The Rabbanon therefore decreed tumah on the hands, to be matriach the Kohen to immerse them, which would serve as a deterrent. The one who taught the reason for nossar, explained it was משום עצלי כהונה – because of lazy Kohanim. Rashi explains that the decree would spur lazy Kohanim to eat the meat, who might otherwise have let it become nossar. The question was asked whether the same decree was enacted for people taking the pesach beyond its boundary, and the Gemara concludes that there was no needבני חבורה זריזין הן ומזהיר זהירי ביה  - the members of the group that offer the pesach are zealous, and they are careful with the meat not to take it out if its boundary.

  • One is not chayav for taking pesach out unless one does hanachah

Rebbe Ami said, המוציא בשר פסח מחבורה לחבורה אינו חייב עד שיניח – If one removes meat of the pesach from the location of one group to that of another group, he is not chayav unless he places it down in the new location, הוצאה כתיב ביה כשבת – The expression of “removing” is written concerning the meat, like it is written concerning Shabbos. Just like Shabbos one is not chayav until he does an akirah v’hanachah so too here a person is not chayav until he does an akirah v’hanachah. Rebbe Abba bar Mammal challenged him from a Mishnah in Zevachim regarding carrying the carcasses of the inner chatas offerings on poles beyond the walls of the azarah, where those in the front are metamei their garments as soon as they emerge from the azarah, even though the offering has not yet come to rest on the ground. According to Rebbe Ami they should not be metamei their garments until they place it down? Rebbe Abba bar Mammal resolved his own question. בנגררין – The Mishnah is dealing with a case where the carcasses are dragging on the ground. Tosafos says that it is lav davka that they were dragging. Rather the limbs hang down to within three tefachim of the ground and are deemed resting on the ground based on the principle of lavud.

  •  Machlokes whether the boundaries that apply to taking pesach out apply to tefillah

The next Mishnah defines the boundary for the prohibition of taking the pesach outside. מן האגף ולפנים כלפנים – From the doorjamb inward, is judged as inside, מן האגף ולחוץ כלחוץ – and from the doorjamb outward, is considered outside. Rav Yehuda said in the name of Rav, וכן לתפילה – the same law applies regarding tefillah. Rav disagrees with Rebbe Yehoshua ben Levi who said, אפילו מחיצה של ברזל אינה מפסקת בין ישראל לאביהם שבשמים  - Even a metal barrier does not separate between the Jews and their Father in Heaven. Rashi explains that there is no such thing as a barrier before Hashem since everything is revealed to Him. Therefore, the doorjamb is not a factor and they are viewed as one group.
