1,915. Other Wives After a Lesser Chalitzah

Yibum v’Chalitzah 5:12

If one of the widows performed a lesser chalitzah, she may remarry but the other widows remain prohibited until they perform chalitzah or all the brothers perform chalitzah with the one who had the lesser chalitzah. This is because a lesser chalitzah is not sufficient to sever the levirate bond from the entire household until she performs chalitzah with all the brothers or all the widows perform chalitzah.

Yibum v’Chalitzah 5:13

If a yevama engages in sexual intimacy with the yavam, a get is necessary to dissolve their bond regardless of whether the relations are valid or not. This is true even if the yavam and yevama engaged in intimacy after performing chalitzah together. The same is true regardless of whether this yavam or one of his brothers engaged in intimacy for the purposes of marriage or for yibum. Even if he or his brother engaged in intimacy with another of the widows after this yavam engaged in valid relations with the yevama, he must give her a get because these relations effect a marriage. Similarly, if a yevama is given valid or invalid maamar, a get is necessary because of the maamar, as we have discussed. Only after giving a get is the prohibition caused by the maamar lifted.
