1,896. Putting It All Together
Yibum v’Chalitzah 4:9
The order of chalitzah is (1) the yevama recites “My yavam refuses to perpetuate his brother’s name in Israel. My yavam doesn’t want….” (2) The yavam says, “I don’t want to take her.” (3) She removes his shoe and spits. (4) She recites, “Thus shall be done to the one who doesn’t build up his brother’s house. His name shall be called in Israel ‘the house of the one whose shoe was removed.’”
Yibum v’Chalitzah 4:10
Going out of order does not automatically disqualify the chalitzah. Even if neither party recited their assigned text, if she spit and then removed the shoe, or if she recited the text and then spit, the chalitzah is valid.
