1,867. Marrying and Divorcing a Yevama
Yibum v’Chalitzah 1:14
A man is not permitted to marry the close relative of a woman with whom he must perform yibum or chalitzah until one of his brothers does so, discharging the obligation. After another brother performs yibum or chalitzah, he may then marry the widow’s mother, daughter, or any other relative, even though these relatives are all prohibited to the brother who performed yibum or chalitzah, as we have already explained.
Yibum v’Chalitzah 1:15
If a man marries his yevama and subsequently divorces her, he is permitted to remarry her if he wishes; she is his wife in all matters. No aspect of the prohibition of a brother’s wife remains, neither under Biblical law nor rabbinic law.
