1,832. Marrying a Pregnant or Nursing Woman
Hilchos Geirushin 11:25
The Sages likewise enacted that a man may not marry a woman who is pregnant with or nursing another man’s child. This is so even though we know who the child’s father is. The restriction about a pregnant woman is out of concern that the man might injure the fetus during intercourse because he doesn’t care about another man’s child; the rule about a nursing woman is out of concern that, should the woman’s milk spoil, the man won’t be interested in restoring her ability to nurse by providing her with a curative diet.
Hilchos Geirushin 11:26
A woman is considered a nursing mother for 24 months; this does not include the day she gave birth or the day she gets betrothed.
