1,783. Erasing a Condition

Hilchos Geirushin 8:15

If a man engraves a get on a plate of gold and gives it to his wife telling her that it’s both her get and payment for her kesubah, it is valid and she is considered to have been paid the value of her kesubah, assuming that the gold plate is worth enough to cover the obligation. If this is not the case, the husband must make up the difference.

Hilchos Geirushin 8:16

Let’s say that a man divorces his wife conditionally, including a condition that invalidates the divorce such as that she never eat meat, drink wine or marry person X, or he included conditions before the main part of the get was written. If the condition was written in the get but he erased it and gave the get to his wife, the divorce is in doubt. If the condition was oral, he should take the get back from his wife and give it to her again without mentioning any conditions, or limiting himself to valid conditions.
