If a man makes a condition that she is not his wife today but she will be his wife tomorrow, then divorce is not effected even though the marital bond is severed on that day. This is why a get includes the phrase “from this day forward.”

If a man divorces his wife on the condition that she never drink wine for the rest of her life, divorce is not effected because the marital bond wasn’t severed. If his condition is for as long as he lives, or as long as a third party lives, then divorce is effected because the marital bond was severed. When that person dies, there will no longer be any connection between the man and his ex-wife.
