1,734. A Get With Erasures or Insertions

Hilchos Geirushin 4:14

If a scribe wrote a get according to the standard text but he didn’t make the prescribed vavs oversized, didn’t write the extra yuds, or he wrote the yuds that shouldn’t have been written, the get is invalid. The same is true if a get in a different language includes ambiguities.

Hilchos Geirushin 4:15

Let’s say that a letter or a word in a get was erased or inserted between the lines. If it’s part of the boilerplate text, the get is valid but if it’s one of the main parts of the get, then the get is invalid. However, if the end of the get specifies that a particular letter has been inserted between the lines or erased, then the get is valid just like any legal document would be in such a case. This is true even if it involves one of the main parts of the get. Similarly, if a get was found torn horizontally and vertically in the manner that the court might do, it is invalid just as any other legal document would be, but if it was torn in a manner other than the way the court might do it, the get remains acceptable.
