1,661. "Iron Sheep" Property That Appreciates in Value
Hilchos Ishus 22:26
Let’s say that a woman brings two utensils or two maids into the marriage as “iron sheep” property; these were appraised at 1,000 zuz but their value subsequently rose to 2,000 zuz. If the husband divorces her, the wife gets one of the utensils or maids, which is worth the 1,000 zuz that she is owed. As far as the other item, she has the option to pay its value and take it because of the honor it bestows upon her family.
Hilchos Ishus 22:27
If a man gives his wife a gift, whether he gave her real estate or money that she used to buy real estate, he is not entitled to the proceeds that it generates. Similarly, if a man gives a woman a gift on the condition that her husband not benefit from it, the proceeds that it generates belonging exclusively to the wife for whatever purposes she desires, then the husband is not entitled to the proceeds of this gift. Likewise, if a woman sells the rights to her kesubah, the money she is paid for this right belongs to her; her husband is not entitled to any proceeds that it might generate.
