1,642. A Woman Who Has Household Help
Hilchos Ishus 21:6
The tasks outlined in the previous halacha apply to couple of modest means. If a woman brings a maid into the marriage, or funds that could be used to hire a maid, or if the man has a maid or the means to hire one, then the wife is not required to grind flour, bake, do laundry or feed her husband’s mount. If there are two maids or the means to hire two maids, then the wife need not cook or nurse children; these tasks can be assigned to a maid.
Hilchos Ishus 21:7
There are therefore five tasks that a woman must perform personally for her husband: spinning; washing his face, hands and feet; pouring his drinks; making his bed; and waiting on him. (See halacha 21:3 for the explanation of this term.) There are six tasks that some wives perform and others don’t: grinding, cooking, baking, laundry, nursing, and feeding her husband’s mount.
