197. Marital Relations, Conversation

31:5 When it comes to sexual activity, it goes without saying that one may not engage in forbidden relations. Rather, when it comes to permitted relations, if one did it solely to satisfy his physical urges, it is considered crude. Even if he did it intending to have children to help him and ultimately to inherit from him, it is not a praiseworthy act. Instead, one should intend to have children in order to serve God, or at least to fulfill his conjugal responsibilities to his wife.

31:6 With regards to conversation, it goes without saying that we may not speak slander, gossip, mockery or vulgarity. Rather, when speaking the words of the wise, one’s intention should be to serve God or things that will help him come to serve God.
