1,610. When a Widow Dies

Hilchos Ishus 18:6

When a widow dies, her husband's heirs are responsible to have her buried. If she took the oath required of widows to collect their kesubahs, then her heirs inherit her kesubah and they are responsible for her funeral instead of the husband's heirs. The husband's heirs are entitled to income generated by a widow. If the heirs tell the widow to keep her income in exchange for the right to maintenance, their words are of no consequence, though she has the option to enact such an arrangement if she so desires.

Hilchos Ishus 18:7

A widow must perform for her husband’s heirs (who support her) all the household tasks that a wife performs for her husband except for pouring them drinks, making their beds, and washing their faces, hands and feet.
