255. Non-Jewish Household Employees

38:7 We are lenient in the case of a non-Jew who works in a Jewish home and cooks for them because we assume that a member of the family was somehow involved in the process.

38:8 If the non-Jewish household employee cooks something for their own use, we do not assume a family member was involved. Food cooked in such a case would be considered bishul akum and would be prohibited. Bishul akum also renders the utensil in which it is cooked prohibited; if it was used after this, an authority must be consulted.
