590. Differently on Shabbos

In an introductory note to this chapter, the Kitzur Shulchan Aruch writes that most Jews are already familiar with the prohibited labors of Shabbos and that he is only addressing common situations with which people may not be familiar. Clearly, the laws of Shabbos constitute an area requiring much greater study than this email alone will allow. 80:89 A person who is guarding fruit or seeds may not clap his hands, slap his thighs or stamp his feet to drive away animals or birds the same way he would during the week. (He must do so differently, which will remind him that it's Shabbos. This will keep him from instinctively picking up a rock to throw at the animal - Mishnah Brurah 338:17.)

80:90 One should not play on the ground with nuts or similar things, even if it's paved. (On a table or a board is permitted - MB 338:20.) One should not reprimand children he sees doing so because they probably won't listen and it's better that they do it unwittingly rather than deliberately.
