Introduction to Shavuos: The Marriage of Kabbalat Hatorah

The haftarah for Bamidbar (Hoshea 2) begins by saying that Bnei Yisrael will be as numerous as the sand which is thematically connected to the counting of Bnei Yisrael in Parshat Bamidbar. Additionally, just as at the end of the Haftarah Bnei Yisrael become betrothed to God, so too, when we accepted the Torah on Shavuot we became God's betrothed.
