87:22 One may not deliver an animal being born on Shabbos, not even to hold the newborn so that it doesn't fall to the ground. (If there is concern that the mother or the offspring may not survive, there might be room to act leniently; one may certainly have a non-Jew act on his behalf in such case - Bi'ur Halacha 332:1 s.v. ein m'yaldin.)   87:23 If an animal is in pain from a fresh wound, one may annoint it with oil. One may not do so at the end of the healing process because then the annointing is only for the animal's comfort. (One may exert himself on Shabbos to alleviate an animal's pain but not to enhance its enjoyment - Mishnah Brurah 332:4.)
