681. Non-Jewish Neighbors

94:16 If the non-Jew lives in his own courtyard but his only means of egress to the public domain is through the courtyard where the Jews live, or if he lives on an upper floor and his stairs are inside the courtyard, this also impedes the Jews' ability to carry in the courtyard on Shabbos.

94:17 If the courtyard belongs to a Jew but he rented or loaned one of the residences to a non-Jew, this does not impede the Jews' ability to carry since he didn't rent it or lend it with the intention that doing so would inconvenience the other Jews. This is all true even if the owner of the courtyard does not personally live there.
