1,353. How High the Moon Appears
Hilchos Kiddush HaChodesh 19:14
If the moon is inclined south of the equator, it will appear in the southwest and its crescent will appear to point northeast. The further the moon is from the equator, the greater its inclination will be.

Another question asked of those who witnessed the moon is how high it appeared in the sky. This is determined by the arc of visibility. When the arc is small, the moon appears closer to the Earth; when it is large, the moon appears higher above the Earth. The size of the arc of visibility determines how high the moon appears to the witnesses.
