1,348. The Inclination of the Constellations
Hilchos Kiddush HaChodesh 19:4
From the beginning of Aries, the constellations start to incline and diverge to the north of the equator until the beginning of Cancer, which is about 23.5 degrees north of the equator. Then the constellations head back towards the beginning of Libra, which is on the equator. From the beginning of Libra, the constellations incline and diverge to the south of the equator until the beginning of Capricorn, which is approximately 23.5 degrees south of the equator. From there, the constellations proceed back towards the equator and the beginning of Aries.
Hilchos Kiddush HaChodesh 19:5
The starts of Aries and Libra revolve on the equator so when the sun is in the beginning of these constellations, it will not incline to the north or the south. It will rise due east and set due west, and the length of day and night will be the same all over the world.
