1,347. The Inclination of the Sun's Orbit

Hilchos Kiddush HaChodesh 19:2

The sun’s orbit that passes through the perceived sphere of constellations does not pass through the middle of the globe from east to west. Rather, it is inclined above the equator, half to the north and half to the south.

Hilchos Kiddush HaChodesh 19:3

The sun’s orbit crosses the equator are two points; one is in the beginning of Aries and the other is opposite it, in the beginning of Libra. Therefore, six constellations - Aries through Virgo - are inclined to the north and six constellations - Libra through Pisces - are inclined to the south.
