1,312. Calculating the Moon's Actual Position for Any Date
Hilchos Kiddush HaChodesh 14:6
The number that remains after adjusting the moon’s average to account for the sun’s position represents the moon’s average around 20 minutes after sunset for the time being calculated. This is called the average of the moon at the time of its sighting.
Hilchos Kiddush HaChodesh 15:1
To find out the actual position of the moon on any date, first calculate the average of the moon at the time of its sighting for that date. Next, calculate the average of the moon in its path and the sun’s average for the same date. Subtract the average of the sun from that of the moon and double the remainder. The result is called the double distance.
