The Glorious Victory of Yehuda

Reuven loses the status of firstborn. Do Levi, Yehuda, and Yosef receive the Kehuna, Kingship, and double portion of the bechor because of something that happened or something that will happen. To what extent is Reuven still the firstborn (in some listings in Sefer Bamidbar he is listed first).

The end of Vayishlach list of Edomite kings who ruled before there was a Jewish King. The addition of "before there was a Jewish King" serves as an introduction to the last part of Sefer Bereshit - it's all about who will be the leader. This immediately precedes Yosef's dreams about being king.

Yosef never really becomes king, he always "comes in second" (e.g. he is the משנה למלך, he is the forbearer of משיח בן יוסף who is secondary to משיח בן דוד).
