1,188. Half-In and Half-Out of a Succah

Hilchos Shofar, Succah v’Lulav 6:8

One is not permitted to sit and eat with his head and the major part of his body inside a succah and his table in the house or otherwise outside the succah. If one does so, he is not considered to have eaten inside the succah; one’s table must also be in the succah. This rule was instituted out of concern that a person would go where his table is. This even applies to a large succah.

Hilchos Shofar, Succah v’Lulav 6:9

For all seven days of Succos, one should learn in the succah but when he needs full comprehension of what he is learning and to grasp all the details, he should do so outside the succah so that his mind will be more focused. One may pray either inside or outside the succah, whichever he prefers.
