With Kindness and Truth Will Sin be Atoned - Mishlei 16:6 and the Gift of Yom Kippur

"בחסד ואמת יכפר עוון וביראת ה' סור מרע"

(Why we use "וביום שמחתכם" as the 10th pasuk in Shofarot even though it doesn't mention the Shofar)

The Vilna Gaon explains the pasuk to mean that חסד (kindness) and אמת (truth) atone for past sins, while יראת השם (fear of Hashem) prevents future sins.
