1,168. Making a Succah of an Alley or a Well
Hilchos Shofar, Succah v’Lulav 4:9
If a portico does not have projections, it is not valid for use as a succah because it resembles a succah assembled in an alley, with walls on only two sides. The middle of such a portico does not have a wall, nor are there any projections opposite it.
Hilchos Shofar, Succah v’Lulav 4:10
If a person lays schach over an alley that has a vertical pole by its opening, or over a well that is enclosed by boards, it is considered a valid succah only on Shabbos and yom tov. Since the pole and the boards are considered partitions vis-à-vis the laws of Shabbos, they are also considered partitions vis-à-vis the laws of succah.
