1,148. Beginning Hilchos Shofar, Succah v’Lulav

Chometz u’Matzah 8:14

If someone (making a Seder alone) falls asleep in the middle of the meal and then wakes up, he does not start eating again. If some members of a group fall asleep in the middle of the meal, they may resume eating. If everyone fell into a deep sleep and then woke up, they may not eat. If they were just dozing, they may eat.

Hilchos Shofar, Succah v’Lulav 1:1

It is a mitzvah from the Torah to hear the shofar blown on Rosh Hashana, as per Numbers 29:1, “It will be a day of sounding for you.” The shofar, which is sounded both on Rosh Hashana and for the Jubilee year, is a bent ram’s horn. Any shofar other than a ram’s horn is unacceptable. Even though blowing the shofar on Rosh Hashana is not explicit in the Torah, it is derived as follows: Regarding the Jubilee year, Leviticus 25:9 says, “You shall make a proclamation, blowing the shofar... you shall proclaim with the shofar.” Our tradition explains that just as the sounding of the Jubilee year must be done with a shofar, the same is true of the sounding on Rosh Hashana.
