1,133. Is This Matzah Considered "Watched?"
Chometz u’Matzah 6:9
Loaves from thanksgiving offerings and cakes from a nazir’s offering, which one person made for his own use, may not be used to perform the mitzvah of matzah as per Exodus 12:17, “You shall watch the matzos.” Matzah for the mitzvah must be watched strictly for the purpose of the mitzvah. The matzos from various sacrifices were also watched for the purpose of these offerings. When it comes to matzah that was made to be sold in the marketplace, the baker had the intention to eat whatever doesn’t sell. Therefore, such matzos were watched with the mitzvah in mind.
Chometz u’Matzah 6:10
Everyone is obligated to eat matzah, including women and servants. A minor who is old enough to train in performing mitzvos should be given an olive-sized portion of matzah to eat. When it comes to a sick or elderly person who cannot eat, matzah may be soaked in water and fed to him so long as it does not dissolve.
